"VOTE FOR ME".....Craaaaash!!!!!

In the light of the current parliament elections in Kuwait...there is one thing that is bothering me, and it's not a political issue. The publicity banners, signs and flyers are getting ridiculous...in terms of quantity and size that is. Many canditates are opting for HUGE, MEGA, BIG signs and banners that can be hazardous for drivers! For example...the same candidate will have the same exact sign/banner repeated all in a row just on one street, and then continues into another street...all within a couple of feet of one another. Then another candidate will have their banners placed in the empty slots between the other candidate's causing the street pavement to be bombared...not to mention the size of the banners. This blocks road signs, road names and numbers, traffic lights....sometimes blocking speeding cameras (which is not bad really...heheheh).

But the main concern I have is when the signs fall down on the streets and causes cars to crash into them (trust me...I witnessed an accident infront of me). These huge banners are mounted on huge metal frames and some are held down with nothing but sand bags!..I mean come on...SAND BAGS???? Especially the ones that are placed on round-abouts (ahem ahem...Jabriya). When you enter the round-about and then you turn around, you dont even notice that one of the MEGA banners have fallen on the ground due to strong winds...and is sticking out/protruding onto the street. Once you suddenly see it, you have to immediately swerve to avoid running into it, and hopefully avoiding hitting the car next to you. It happened to me in the Jabriya roundabout, but thank god there was no car on the lane next to me when I swerved to the right.

So what can be done? Nothing I suppose. Just take my advice and be careful when you drive down a busy street filled with election banners. Nowadays, you don'r have to be on 4th or 5th street to be stuck in traffic. Now you get stuck in your own friendly neighborhood inner streets...how nice (sarcastically).

Anyways, good luck to all the candidates for the new Parliament elections :)

The signs do get on people's nurves but the good thing is it might actually teach people how to turn the round about! :oP
Inshallah people would stop before entering the round about like they should instead of doing their normal drive through routine without caring about the cars on the inside!

There are some posters that are the same pictures over and over...and they are placed by the dozens just a few feet apart. I feel as thought that style of advertising is insulting to our intelligence.

Why?

It assumes that we have the memory of a goldfish. Or an attention span of a gnat.

Vote for X, vote for X, vote for X, vote for...

Maybe it's time to get the shotgun out and have fun with some late night target practice on these posters.

Just kidding.

I believe in "freedom of speech", but maybe we should ask ourselves how we feel about the "freedom of repetitive redundancy" in speech...

shopaholic q8eya: that roundabout in Jabriya is the worst! Thanks god you did not get into an accident.

stallion: yeah, but I'm taking about the banners falling on the road. Sometimes you cant see the banners on the floor when you enter the roundabout, especially when its in the opposite side of the roundabout. You only get to see if when you curve and bam..there it is!

skunk: LOL....good idea...can I sue the from scrapes as well?

alia: Wow...how close is the banner to your house. I thought banners are not supposed to be put up in inner residential roads...only main streets within the district (mantaqa). But anyways, so say we neighbors? Hey neighbor :)

chikipappi: yes it is dangerous. But in terms of the female candidates photos being vandilized...its true...its not a good thing to see a womans photo being vandilized and drawn over with markers and paint. Imagine what that woman's family (children) might think and feel about that?

papilliona: on topic...thanks :) Off topic..i am? ok will check it out?

annoymous: I dont think that what she meant. Anyways, she explained herself in a seperate comment.

fractal00: trend or no trend, it is still dangerous. But its true..I do remember seeing election posters in Lebanon on street benches, under bridges, wrapped around lamp posts...hehehehehe!

judy abbott: LOL...yes that true. Those trees are the most tackiest things I've ever seen. Why the government decided to spend money on that?...I have no idea...but their intention was good...they wanted to beautify the country...weird way of showing it :P

caffeinated: never thought of it that way, but it does make sense about the whole golfish comparison. I say we start a seminar or training course on how to prevent freedom of repititive redundancy....I'm starting a sign up sheet :)
