Badliyat Central...

WHY??? I dunno what's come over me this weekend!! I've been screwing up BIG TIME when I speak this days. Everytime I wanna actually say something...I'm thinking of a different word in my mind. So what actually comes out of my mouth are both words merged together into one, which can sometimes mean something totally different! LOL...I always seem to drop a BADLIYA (بدليــة) here and there. For example...

SCENARIO 1:
This past Thursday: I was at my usual family lunch gatherings. I was saying a story about the Kuwait Gulf War. So I wanted to say Gulf War, but in my mind I was thinking of the word "azma" (أزمـة), which is invasion in Arabic. So what came out was..."During the gazma..."

SCENARIO 2:
A couple of months ago, I was ordering food at home. So I was on the phone with Naif Chicken and I wanted to say "Ma3oon Ta'ouk" (chicken platter). So then I ordered..."Aby wa7ed ta3oun." At that moment, I could not control myself...I passed the phone to my mother, while I was rolling on the ground laughing. My mom also could not stop laughing as well as she giggled the rest of the order on the phone. I literally ordered the plague over the phone. How sweet!

SCENARIO 3:
One day, my uncle was sitting and looked very depressed. Being concerned as I am, I wanted to ask him "Shfeek khaly?" (uncle, what's wrong?). I confidently sat next to him and prouly asked: "Shfeekh?" Just like that...one word! Let's just say I cheered up my uncle :)

SCENARIO 4:
Today, I was thinking of buying myself some shorts, but for some odd reason, I was also thinking of pants as well. So silly me said: "I need some shants!"

Well that's me in a nut shell...Jazz Central...Abu il badliyat! (أبو البدلـيات)

DO YOU HAVE ANY TO SHARE?

Yes, yesterday I was with a bunch of people I never met before, and someone said something and it was supposed to be something else, but since I did not know these people, I did not understand anything.

Thakartny ib my best friend, she is Om Ilbadliyat....badliyat 24/7 i dont remember any now..but sometimes we can spend hours remembering them & laughing our socks off...shes so bad that even if u are at 20m radius of her u start saying ur own badliyat!

My badliyat always sound the same, a few of my most famous are:

goo6u = goo6y
sushu = sushi
kusharo = kushari

I don't know why they always end with an -u?

Badliyat are good fun.

Worse than the badliyat is when you can't remember what reply comes after what phrase in Arabic. Back when I was in high school I sneezed and someone said "yir7amch allah" and I replied "Allah yir7amek". It SOUNDED totally logical to me! I think someone should make a phrase book of all the Arabic/Kuwaiti phrases and their replies (and sometimes the reply to the reply!). My cousin (who was in her twenties but barely spoke Arabic at the time) once replied to my (religious) uncle during Eid: "3asak min Gawada." LOOOOOOOL!!!

DR, Glad you liked it ;P

Stallion, They just came out of my mouth without thinking, you see, it's just about switching the 1st two letters in the first word with the second word, actually, I didn't know how this happened!! =/

Jazz-C, Yup! I guess we both are in the same boat ;)

Klieo: LOooOOL....3asak min gawada!!!! CLASSIC!!! What did your islamic uncle do or say after that?

Nunu: Remember...we have to open Badliyat Institute soon ;)

Alia: yup, I know what you mean. happens to me to :S

I think he just laughed because he knew her Arabic sucked. Thank god it was a relative though, not some random person! You should use that one next eid just for fun!

I loved Shfeekh ! That should be a word...

Jazz, no worries, you are in good company when it comes to badliyat...

Sometimes I just translate straight from English, even if I know it's not correct...

I was in my car and wanted to tell someone not to "hog the road"...I created the "verb form" of hog/pig from "khanzeer", and it came out:

La takhanzir at-tareej!

At 9:24 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

La Takhanzir el tareej and Ta3oon .. lol god damn , that was funny hehehe, a lot of that stuff happnen to me too way to many to remember, but it is the same as you guys i would be thinking about something while talking about something else and words tnd to mix ....

Oh oh i have one for you ... today i was with a fellow employee, i had to call the company to get a code for one of the items, so i was spelling the name as follows ... A as in Airplane, C as in Cat, i reached to T and i was baffled i couldn't think of anything to say so i turned to my friend and i was like what's for T so he told me Table ... and i went on saying T for Tawla .. Tawla in Arabic ... and all i could see was the car going left and right as my friend was cracking up in laughter.

Kleio: hehehe...if I say that to anyone to my family in Eid, I will not live to see the next day :S But I would love to see their reaction :)

zinzinq8: hehehehe...reminds me of a story i heard in which a guy in a 3aza. Instead of him saying "A7san Allah 3azakum"....he said "A7san 3aza 3azakum"...LOOoOOL...miskeen

Caffienated: LOL...did u actually mean it that way?

fractal00: I know...the mixture of words are the most funniest. I still cant imagine I actually said "gazma"!

anonymous: LOooOOOLL...T as in tawla!!! hehehehe...can work both ways. My stomach is still hurting from my laughing :D
