I Miss My College Days!!

I dunno what came over me, but I got this sudden nostalgic burst of being back in college. I attented Florida International University in Miami, FLorida from 1997 and graduated in 2002 with my Bachelors Degree in Mass Communication. I miss those days...walking around campus, the events, the athletic activities, the partying...hehehehe, working as a Resident Assistant (RA) in Bay Vista Housing, the group study sessions, and all that jazz! Now I'm soooo eager to go back to college and pursue my masters. I wanna be a student again. Kleio, I'm gonna join forces with you and become a student again soon :)

Honestly, JC if you miss partying.. you won't find it at grad school :-( Or have time for events. Or friends, really. I don't mean to be a downer...but a lot of this is true, if you go to a serious Uni. Grad school is fun, though, because you learn more about your field. But it's just a different kind of fun.

FIU! Hehehehe My parents were alumni there, they met there, got married, got pregnant, had me, and then shipped me back to q8 while they continued college hehehe.

I wanted to go there in 2002 ;r But I didn't get a full acceptance, all because of those damned SAT English scores :(

Bit of my life there. But yes I would understand how you got nostalgic :r

Hey I was just there couple weeks ago. We went to visit my cousin she is staying there for 6 months. She is staying in Orlando and place name is Vista something too... I forgot the name exactly.
But it was a Lot lot lot fun. We were in Disney World, nothing to do with college...
:P

JC, while I would definitely say come and join me in grad school, Caffeintated is right on target about how different it is from undergrad. It's funny because N and I were talking about this exact thing today. It is such a different world, but it is equally exciting and wonderful. Unlike undergrad, you barely go out, don't have a social life beyond meeting up with a few people from your programme every now and then, and you can literally go for days without leaving your place or talking to another human being. On the other hand, the amount of information you learn every single day is staggering, and the feeling of excitement you get when discussing an issue that you really care about is exhilarating. It's a totally different type of thrill than the carefree world-at-your-fingertips undergrad experience, but it opens up a whole new set of doors that is just so hard to describe. One thing I have discovered for certain, though, is that taking time off between undergrad and grad school is a must. Once you've been out there working for a while, you take on such a different approach to your academic work. Because you know for certain that you really want to be there and you appreciate it so much more. I see such a difference in students in my programme who came straight from undergrad, and those who are a bit older like me. It really makes the world of difference in interaction. So yalla, pack your bags and come join the (not party but) wonderful world of academia!

Btw all I could think about when I saw the pictures of your dorms is the story about your early morning visitors! LOL! Nice campus.

Dude, I don't know how you graduated from there! Looking out of the window must have been such a distraction! :oP

I guess we are all going through that phase of nostalgia cause yesterday I went through my old pics from my university! Brought tears to my eyes and I actually called up some friends!

I too am thinking of doing my Masters and I'll take the girls' (Caff and Kleio) remarks into consideration. As much as I want to get a Masters I also want to PARTAAAY!!! HAAAAY!! So when and if I go abroad I'm going to work hard during the week but my Saturday must be a FUN day and night! :oP

Toomz: I know...me and u both :) Let's go together...we will have fun!

laialy_q8: so you graduate in 4 months...good for you. mabrook. Bil 3aks...once u are in college, u wanna leave and take a break. But after a while of being an employee...u will start to miss the college days. The best of luck to u :)

Caffeinated: oh yeah...I know that...what I meant was that I miss the care-free life I had as an undergrad. hehehehe...I know that grad school is more work and I am ready for it, but there will be times where I will squeeze in a little social hour here and there ;)

jackie: Wow...u parent met there...thats great. Hopefully u will get to go there soon and good luck on your SAT's if u take them again. I know how frustrating those tests can be. Trust me I know, I have to take the GRE's soon :S

Nunu: Miss u too Nunu :) wanna go with me to grad school?

Diamon: Disney world rocks!! I also enjoyed Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios :)

Kleio: I know exactly what u mean. I knew that grad school is not fun and partying..It's a whole different life. U put it so well before u left. You said that when we go to our undergrad...it's a given cause it's expected of us. But going to Grad school is more of a personal choice and kinda a sacrafice for leaving what you worked and built for yourself (work, family, friends...etc). SO you enter the realm of grad school with a whole different mindset and take it more seriously, and the only pressure u have to succeed and excell in Grad school is yourself...u want to do it right. SO I totally agree and understand. Thank u for your words of wisdom. And by the way, I cant beleive u remember that story of the dorms! LOL!!!

Stallion: LOL...I know what u mean. I can't tell you how many times I look out that window and wish I was swimming in the bay instead of being in class. Luckily that class was my Marketing Concepts course and I loved my professor...Prof. Kranendonk to be exact...funny name but an amazing academic. hehehehe...imagine u and I go to Grad school toether...I see trouble in the horizon ;)

I so agree! I want to do my PhD in education soon (although what I would want to work on specifically in this field changes so often!!) but I agree with Kleio that a bit of experience in your field is invaluable to postgrad. I did my Master's (2 of 'em actually :)) almost straight out of undergrad and it was great, but I feel now that I would learn even more with all my work experience behind me. Sounds like a plan: Let's all quit and go back to school. Kleio and I will cater all the study sessions ;)

Raine: LOL...I can't wait for both of you to cater such study sessions. It will be 5-star quality!

All of you come to London. We'll kick out my neighbors upstairs (who I swear are running a sweatshop) and JC and Stallion can move up there. Raine - you and hubby gotta find your own place cos we can't kick Maria (downstairs) out - she's lived here for 48 years!

JC - Study sessions with mini sandwiches and spring rolls and Caesar's pizzas that we'll bring from Kuwait and freeze. LOL! And you don't forget to bring the tomato juice and Worcester sauce! Man, I miss chalet.

And Stallion - I could so hear your voice when you wrote "PARTAAAY! HAAAY!" ;)
