Are They For Real?
Wussup :) Forgive me bloggers for I have sinned. It has been 4 days since my last blog entry. Busy week. This morning, I was reading the Arab Times Newspaper and I caught a glimps at this classified ad:
Why have an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting for something that is illegal in Kuwait in the first place? What are they gonna say? "Hi...my name is _____________, and I have committed a felony" ??? The strange thing is that you have to call a mobile number. In other words, you call a complete stranger who claims that "you are not alone." And while you at it, also call Narcotics Anonymous...which maybe down the hall from the AA meeting.

Its a disease and you should be talking about how good it is to have these kind of groups even if alcohol and narcotics are illeagal. Narcotics are illeagal in the States but you still have these meetings. The AA one I have seen in Arab times for ages now (a few years) but the Narcotics one I had never seen before.
I think its good that Kuwait has these kind of meetings. If anything I think the Narcotics one should be published in arabic newspapers as well and magazines like Bazaar and Student talk.
ha!!!
Actually i agree with Mark, Kuwait needs those AA meetings, i just wish they had a real center for it. I mean have you ever considered how many addicts in Kuwait who want to stop but are ashamed to come forward? then you'd see their names on the paper found dead because of an over dose, it's sad really and i applaud those who are sincere in helping others, that's my opinion :)
maybe its a bootleggers way of informing u if u want to buy a bottle... call me! lol
think about it... ur not alone...
an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting in Kuwait?! Hehehe, 7adda mu layeg!! ;P
Hey all rules are meant to be broken one way or another.
Good thing that someone is willing to offer help for people that need it."well if the help is genuine" but the only way for people to find out is to take a chance.
Pretty crazy!
This is soooo clear!!!
This AA guy has shortage in his liquor storage, so he posts his mobile number to meet people who'd probably have plenty of booze :p
I can imagine the meeting like this:
AA new joiner: Hi.. my name is ---- and I'm an AA.
AA group supervisor: Hi ---- ummmm..... so you have some huh ;)
Rampurple: I like the way you looked at it!
Sometimes I wonder if the "N.A." works here since I know the hospital here doesn't work! The hospital that's supposed to help drug addicts get off drugs doesn't do what it supposed to do! I've heard from a reliable source that it does the opposite! Apparently it's easier to get it there than anywhere else!
Why is NA offered in English and Arabic while AA is not?
That one's really cool!!! Hahahah
AA forever.. yeah rite...
we all have problems.. but I rather go to the BAR then teh AA
;)
JC, its actually great that we have that in Kuwait!
Like Mark and reema said, it is a problem that is widespread and cannot be solved alone, support is definitely needed. I personally know a person who benefitted alot from those two groups here in Kuwait. He got his life back because of the support he got. Obviously, 90% of the cure is admitting and actually having the courage to ask for help...
Good for them walla!
Mark: I totally agree with the fact that we do need these kind of meetings in Kuwait.
Purg: :)
SheWites: I read more that Kuwait Times. I also read Daily Star :)
Reema: It is sad that we don't have official center for these meeting. How do we know the person you gonna call on the mobile has the resources to help those in need? But like you said...I do applaude the efforts.
Rampurple: Maybe..who knows. Anything is possible in Kuwait and people will do anything for a source.
Nunu: True, but they do exist.
Diamon: Its hard to tell if the help is genuine. But one way to find out...
Bo_ghazi: U think people will call and speak in code so they can get a fresh stock? How smart.
stallion: In my opinion, I know for a fact that the NA dont help. Their way of helping someone with an addiction is to give them more pills. They may be healed from the narcotics. But then they get hooked on the pills. I know this for a fact.
Tequila: SO true...some ppl will not step up because of the reputation of themselves and the family. Basically trapped in addiction hell.
Tania: Welcome to my blog
Christopher: I have no idea. Maybe the people at the AA only speak Arabic.
Ana-Cahn: are you legal to go to a bar?
Q: true. Admitting that someone has a problem is a start. I agree that we need the help in this country, but I wish they had more official centers.
who said drinkin is illigal in kuwait? u all jus assume that, but it's not, it totally legal with conditions tho.. that u stay home drink there and not in public and even if u were caught bel shari3 drinkin thas mo5alafa bs etha u made an accident and u were drunk, hathi jenaya..
lakin el drinkin indoors is totally legal, dun ask me where i know this from, i jus DO :P
and about drugs, la hatha illegal min omma
and about them bein some sorta dealers, i say NOT, it's either true or a police trap, nuthin's more
blasha, hehe too many details :P
you can go on and on about this! aslan the whole idea by itself not working regardless of legal or illegal, do you think a kuwaiti alcoholic would show up for such meetings infront of others?! yeah right!! walla shefna boflan bil AA meeting lol typical :)
This ad has been in Arab Times every day for many many years (I think maybe ever since the invasion).
I wonder if anyone actually ever calls...it would make an interesting experiment to call them :o)
Blasha: true. Even though alcohol is considered "illegal", it is still wide spread around this coutry. It's like a year-round party. And it does sound like a police trap.
Spontaneousnessity: You'll be suprised that some Kuwaiti's will admit that they drink or have a problem regardless of what other people think.
q8Sultana: Has it been all these years? WOw. never knew. I just realized them just now. Just shows you that I don't read Arab Times at all. I like to read more of the Arabic ones...if I ever do! If not...then I check Q's blog :)
